TERRAZZO TILES

portada 2

Our terrazzo tiles are handmade cement tiles pressed in a hydraulic press, with marble or glass fragments on the surface in addition to the usual marble powder and colour pigments. The combination of Demosaica colours and the different types of fragments gives rise to novel designs that bring a fresh look to this traditional material. Its origins and current uses are explained in our guide to the history and applications of terrazzo.

Available terrazzo formats

At Suelos Hidráulicos Demosaica we have a wide variety of different formats for our terrazzo tiles, each one with a different style. If you need to try another tile format or if you need us to send you samples, do not hesitate to contact us.

Terrazzo colours

Just like cement tiles, our terrazzo tiles are made by hand, one at a time, giving each piece a unique character in its tones.

The colour chart designed by Suelos Hidráulicos Demosaica is shown below. How the background colour and the grain colour are combined is explained in our guide to coloured terrazzo.

Frequently asked questions

WHAT IS TERRAZZO?

Our terrazzo tiles are handmade cement tiles pressed in a hydraulic press with marble or glass fragments, marble powder and colour pigments on the surface. The terrazzo is polished after drying in the open air.

CAN I CUSTOMISE TERRAZZO TILES?

Demosaica terrazzo is fully customisable: you can choose from the 49 colours in our colour palette for the background and combine it with a wide variety of sizes and colours of fragments, thus achieving completely unique terrazzo tiles.

IS IT SUITABLE FOR PUBLIC AND COMMERCIAL SPACES?

Yes, terrazzo is suitable for public and commercial spaces. The fragments in the surface layer give it extra hardness for spaces with high traffic.

WHY CAN THERE BE SOME TONAL VARIATION?

All our products are completely handmade and therefore have variations in colour and tone, which is one of their main characteristics.

CAN COLOURS CHANGE OVER TIME?

Yes, colours may change very slightly over time.

IS TREATMENT NECESSARY?

For terrazzo we recommend the application of a sealing treatment.

IS SPECIFIC MAINTENANCE NECESSARY?

Cleaning should be carried out with neutral soap and water, avoiding acid or abrasive products. We recommend light polishing to remove stains and surface damage.

HOW WIDE SHOULD THE JOINT BE?

The joint between the Demosaica terrazzo tiles should be as thin as possible.

CAN TINTED GROUT BE USED?

The use of tinted grout is not recommended for any of our products as it may cause irreversible staining of the tile surface; always use white grout.

CAN THEY BE INSTALLED OUTDOORS?

Terrazzo tiles are suitable for outdoor use, bearing in mind that some colours may vary slightly due to the effects of sun and low temperatures. A wider joint than usual (3-4 mm.) is recommended.

CAN THEY BE USED AS CLADDING IN WET AREAS?

Yes, terrazzo tiles can be used in wet areas provided they have been properly treated.

CAN UNDERFLOOR HEATING BE INSTALLED UNDER DEMOSAICA MATERIALS?

Yes, terrazzo tiles are excellent thermal conductors, so they are perfect for this use. For installation over underfloor heating, we recommend leaving a wider joint than usual (3-4 mm).
